Today the cold weather finally returned to some degree after a week of rain and warm weather, which coincidentally coincided with me having a stomach bug that had me laid up for most of the week. luckily as the good weather returned, so has my fitness so today we had a look at Coire an t-Sneachda on the North Face of Cairngorm and a winter grade I route called Aladdins Couloir. Approaching the Coire the ground was well frozen and it looked like most of the gullies still had a good packing of snow and ice. Closer inspection of the gulley showed the second pitch well iced up which probably raised the grade a little. At least 3 teams were either on the route or preparing, but graciously they let me pass them, even when clipping into one of their anchors as I took photos. After topping out I had a look around the wind swept plato before being buffeted down the goat track and back to the car at the ski center. A good day today and with snow forecast over the weekend should be good for my winter ML next week.
