This year due to other work commitments I’ve had to limit my time in my second home to 1 month. Forgoing the planing I joined some friends on a 2 week category 4 trek through the Pre Elbrus area of Russia. This year the normal reliable Russian high pressure weather let us down some what with rain at the start and some very high dangerous winds near the end. Needless to say we had to adapt our plans due to the weather and its effects on our health. As usual I only got the camera out during the good times when things weren’t technical so apologies if there’s not many action shots. Some of the photo’s are taken by my good friend and guide Inna, who never seems to have the camera out of her hand, much to my annoyance.
There were another 2 pass’s that day and a wet glacier crossing with a good lead by Inna, unfortunately the camera batteries died after the first pass. It was a long but enjoyable day before we returned to our tent’s with celebration on our mind, glad i don’t have any of the evenings tent photo’s.
The next day we walked back out the same valley crossing the now enlarged log bridge thanks to the National park guys. Later we met them accompanying a hunting party and they offered the stronger better looking members of our group a lift in the Uaz jeep, leaving us old and infirm behind, not sure I was bothered though, I’m a bit of a back seat driver.
That evening while down in the valley we were Joined by Pasha who brought a welcome load of pork stakes which we barbecued over our camp fire washed down with some beer. Pasha was to join us on the second week and replace Yulia and Sasha who had to return to Stavropol to attend a wedding, I suspect it was an interesting wedding for Sasha as he got his face so sun burnt during our day on the pass’s he looked like ET with a beauty face pack of white cream.
