Over the past 7 days I’ve been back with the Discovery Quest group, this time it was up in the Cairngorms for a true taste of winter weather. Initially upon arrival I think they were disappointed there wasn’t more snow and couldn’t understand why I was saying that was the last thing I wanted. By the time they left though I think they understood that they should be careful what they wish for. Over 6 days on the hill we covered a lot of the skills involved in winter walking and mountaineering. Most people don’t realise how much more difficult it can be out in the mountains in winter conditions, so well done to the group who were out almost every one of the 6 days covering a range of activity from learning essential winter skills with the ice axe and crampons, right through to multi-pitch ice climbing.
More snow arrived today right down to Aviemore town center so the skiing should be good for the weekend. Off to Glencoe on Friday to run my introduction to winter skills course, still one last minute place left if anyone feels inclined, more info HERE.
